Super Visa requirements, explained simply
A plain-language overview of what IRCC asks for — with links to the official sources. Requirements can change, so always confirm on IRCC’s website.
1. Medical insurance
Private medical insurance valid for at least one year from the date of entry, with at least $100,000 of emergency coverage for health care, hospitalization and repatriation. It must be paid in full or in instalments with a deposit (where allowed). Compare plans.
2. Letter of invitation
A signed letter from the child or grandchild in Canada, including a promise of financial support for the length of the visit and details of who lives in the household.
3. Minimum income
The host must show income that meets the minimum threshold for their family size, using documents such as a Notice of Assessment. IRCC publishes the current table.
4. Immigration medical exam
The applicant usually needs an immigration medical exam with an IRCC-approved panel physician.
