Super Visa FAQs

Super Visa insurance — your questions answered

Plain-language answers from our licensed advisors.

How much coverage does a Super Visa need?
IRCC requires at least $100,000 of emergency coverage, valid for at least one year from the date of entry. Many families choose more for extra peace of mind.
Can my parents’ pre-existing conditions be covered?
Yes — many plans cover stable pre-existing conditions. Each insurer has its own stability period (often 90 or 180 days) and rules by age. Open "Plan overview" on any quote to see the exact terms.
Can I pay monthly?
Several insurers offer monthly payment options for Super Visa plans. Where available, the monthly price is shown on the quote.
What if the Super Visa is refused?
Most insurers refund the premium if the visa is refused and you send proof before the policy starts. See the "Refunds" tab in each plan overview.
How do I get the insurance documents for the application?
After you buy, the insurer issues a confirmation of coverage you can submit with the Super Visa application. We can help you check it meets the requirements.
What is a "stable" pre-existing condition?
Generally, a condition with no new symptoms, tests, treatment or medication changes during a set period before coverage starts. See our guide on stability.
What does the deductible mean?
The amount you pay toward a claim before the insurer pays. Some insurers apply it per claim, others per policy — the plan overview shows which.
Can both parents be on one policy?
Many insurers offer couple rates. Choose "Couple" in the quote engine to see them.
Can I renew or extend?
Most insurers allow you to buy a new policy before the current one ends, if your parents remain eligible. Avoid a gap — a gap can trigger a new waiting period.
Who do I call in an emergency?
The insurer’s 24-hour assistance number on the policy documents — ideally before treatment. Calling first avoids reduced benefits on many plans.
